Specialist identification of Diptera to species level, with particular expertise in the Brachycera. We undertake specimen preparation and microscopy-based keyed identification from material collected in the field or submitted by other surveyors and consultancies. Working with us allows ecological consultancies to offer Diptera assessment as part of their service without the need to carry specialist taxonomic expertise in-house, directly broadening the scope of ecological contracts they are able to deliver.
Identification effort is focused on families whose assemblage composition provides the most meaningful evidence for site assessment — groups whose presence, absence and relative abundance reflect habitat quality, connectivity, management history and conservation value. This ensures maximum efficiency for the client: effort is directed where it generates interpretable outputs, rather than exhaustive processing of ecologically uninformative taxa. Coverage spans saproxylic, wetland, grassland and woodland-associated families across the Brachycera, with additional capacity in relevant Nematocera groups where project requirements demand. We take a pragmatic but thorough approach, proportionate to the question being asked.
Work is supported by curated species lists, quality-controlled reporting and professional interpretation of results in an ecological context — not simply a list of names. This service is available to ecological consultancies, conservation organisations and research projects requiring reliable, expert-level Diptera determination.
